In a recent radio interview, Maricopa County, Ariz., Sheriff Joe Arpaio shared his view that the influx of illegal immigrants into the U.S. has been a coordinated effort among some Democrats to procure new voters. He explained that the left’s eagerness to bestow upon millions of illegals the benefits of citizenship suggests its end goal is voting privileges.
“That’s common sense,” he declared. “I don’t think that’s something that nobody knows. You make them here legally so they can vote.”
Even as he continues to face charges that his department deliberately targeted Hispanics, Arpaio remained fervent in his anti-amnesty rhetoric.
“There’s a push afoot nationally to sign up more Hispanics to be able to vote,” he said. “But you have to be careful now. But if you legalize these guys, these people, they are going to vote.”
Suggesting the overwhelming majority of this new voting bloc would support Democrats, Arpaio pleaded with GOP presidential candidates to oppose any effort to legalize criminal aliens. He used the continuous transfer of drugs into his county and others as a central reason to oppose a porous border.
The man often referred to as ‘America’s toughest sheriff’ went on to claim that illegal immigrants are responsible for “99 percent” of the drug traffic affecting his constituency.
“Everybody talks about immigration,” he concluded, advising the 2016 Republican field to “start talking about the drug problem coming from Mexico.”
It is obvious, he asserted, that Barack Obama is not willing to act on the matter.
“Where’s the president?” he asked. “How come he is not talking about the drugs coming across the border?”
